From the Mail: Byredo X Oliver Peoples Limited Edition Box Set

Byredo x Oliver Peoples

Byredo x Oliver Peoples*

I saw this from my mailbox today and they’re adorable!

Byredo, a Stockholm based fragrance company teamed up with Oliver Peoples to present a limited edition box set containing a pair of lovely sunnies and a Byredo Oliver Peoples fragrance. Talk about uniting the two senses!

The Byredo Oliver Peoples fragrance features notes of Juniper Berries, Californian Lemon, Orris Butter, Warm Sand Accord, Helichrysum, among others. With the juniper berries, lemon, and sand accord, I believe the scent is perfect for the beach or for summer!

The Byredo x Oliver Peoples boxed set is available in either amber bottle, or blue bottle. A set costs USD 530.00 and available online at http://byredo.com. With the customs and post issues in the Philippines, my wallet heaved a sigh of relief.

Friday Wrap: Summer 2013 Editions

In fragrance world, you know it is summer when companies start adding “eau fraiche”, “l’eau”, or  “summer” to the name of their classics. Often times, these releases are lighter versions of the original.

I bet there is a huge market for these collector editions as I personally know a person with every single CK One Summer releases in his collection. And hey, if you live here in Manila, these perfumes are appropriate, or timely, all year-round!

Without much ado, here they are.

CK One Summer 2013

Calvin Klein releases its 10th CK One Summer edition, in an aqua bottle.

Also from Calvin Klein, Eternity Summer 2013.

Acqua di Gioia Eau Fraiche [3]

Another summery take on a classic is Giorgio Armani Aqua di Gioia Eau Fraiche. It is aqua, and it is eau fraiche. Take that!

Prada Candy L'Eau [4]

There are also summer versions of more recent successes, like Prada Candy L’Eau.

Fan di Fendi Eau Fraiche [5]

Fan di Fendi Eau Fraiche [5]

and Fan di Fendi Eau Fraiche.

Shiseido Zen Sun [6]

Shiseido Zen Sun [6]

Lastly, they may not be “eau fraiche”, nor “l’eau”, but they carry the name of the star of summer, Shiseido Zen Sun!

This is not a comprehensive list as I predict more S/S 2013 perfumes are yet to come. If you want more information on these releases, you can always visit www.nstperfume.com or www.fragrantica.com.

Citrus Paradisi by Czech & Speake

I woke up very early today to catch up with my boss in the US. I was still very sleepy when I put on my newest sample scent, Czech & Speake Citrus Paradisi.

I’m so glad I did. It perked me up! It energized me, more than the cheap coffee I got from 7-11.

Czech & Speake Citrus Paradisi, like Neroli, is a linear citrus scent.  It’s citrus from top to the base notes. No evolution here.  Just plain and simple citrus.

Unlike Neroli, however, Citrus Paradisi derives its scent from the fruit, and not from blossoms. The smell of the blossoms and citrus fruits maybe similar, but up close, you can tell that the two have their own distinct characteristics.

Czech & Speake Citrus Paradisi, on the opening, bursts forth with the zing and zest of a grapefruit. It’s like you squeezed out a grapefruit peel until all the oils come out. It is that sort of freshness.  And it stays that way, citrusy,  light and fresh.

With mercury levels zooming to  36 degrees here in Manila, Czech & Speake Citrus Paradisi is just the perfect scent!

Neroli by Czech & Speake

While the perfumers continues to flood the market with ouds, while the perfumistas raves, or grunts about ouds, or while perfume bloggers whips out their winter scent lists, I am already on the hunt for the perfect summer fragrance! We, in Manila, are already having hot, sunny days, and temperatures,  I suspect, averages 88 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer has arrived in this side of the world.

With that, I tested Czech & Speake Neroli.

Neroli is really the oils extracted from bitter orange blossoms.  And Czech & Speake captured that in its cologne of the same name.

Czech & Speake Neroli is sweet, and a bit spicy. It is citrusy, very refreshing, and very light.  It reminds me of those small Italian perfumes from Napoli that my uncle brings home.

Czech & Speake Neroli maybe what they call as soliflore, as it features the singular note of the neroli. It does not have the complexity of top notes, middle notes, or base notes.  It’s monotonous actually, very linear.

Despite the simplicity, Czech & Speake Neroli is well made, and super perfect for Manila’s weather these days. I declare it my summer scent no. 1!

Scent of Summer: Coron

I’m back!

We left the city last week for a bit of vacation in Coron, in western Philippines.  We had no internet access so I got detached from blogs and the world of perfume . But only for a while.

We found this on one of our island trips.

Frangipanis on the beaches! They are in full bloom that you can smell their scent in the whole beach.  It was just amazing.

Of course, we also climbed Mt Tapyas, we bathed in the Maquinit Hotsprings, we swam the lakes of Barracuda and Kayangan, and we swam with the fishes of Skeleton Wreck and Siete Pecados coral garden.

If I had to match this trip with a scent, it had to be TDC Sel de Vetiver sprayed on a fragipani bloom. What do you think? 😀
